Fishing on the Searenity Avalon

Flounder

In the spring and early summer, Avalon’s back bays are filled with flounder. For those who want an exciting experience catching fish, but do not want to venture into the ocean, this is a great option. Later in the summer, the flounder move off shore to the reefs and wrecks which are about a 15 minute trip from the inlet. Flounder Charters typically are 4 hours.

BluefishEarly in the season there is an abundance of smaller bluefish in the back bays of 7 mile island. Later in the season we catch “gator blues,” like the one pictured above, near the wrecks.

Sea Bass

Sea bass fishing is unlike any other experience, especially on the Searenity Avalon. This is our specialty and we have several secret spots off shore. When Captain Ben says “lines in,” the action is frequently nonstop. Simply drop Ben’s hand made rigs down to the bottom, and fish are often hooked within seconds. Great for new anglers, and those tired of waiting around to catch a fish. Sea bass are delicious too! Typically this is a 5 hour trip.

TautogTautog, also known as tog or blackfish, are one of the hardest fighting fish in the sea and best tasting. Early November and colder months are the best time for tog fishing.

Mahi Mahi

Mahi Mahi is Captain Ben’s personal favorite species to target in New Jersey. The fish range from less than 3 pounds up to 15 pounds, but all of the fish put on a spectacular fight! Mahi only come within range for a month or so in late summer, so plan accordingly. Mahi trips are for intermediate or advanced fisherman only, and take 5-6 hours or more.

Tilefish

Blueline and Golden Tilefish live 80 miles offshore on the continental ridge, which local fisherman refer to as the canyons. Blueline Tile can be caught by hand, whereas electric reels are required to reel big Golden Tile up 1000 feet or more! We will experience incredible wildlife and catch a ton of fish! Tile trips are 12-16 hours and are not a first time trip.

*Trips are limited to 6 guests. We provide all bait, tackle, and ice needed to catch our desired species. After our trip is done, Captain Ben will clean and filet the catch for you to enjoy!
